In September 2006 I lost my sister-in-law to pancreatic cancer.  Gill’s last few days were spent in a hospice where she was able to die with dignity and shown so much love and care, and also where we as a family were treated with such humanity

In Gill’s memory, and as a way of expressing my heartfelt thanks for the care she and thousands of others like her receive every year, I would love to be able to provide an opportunity to give something back to hospices throughout the UK.  My vision is Walking On The Bright Side which will provide an opportunity for all hospices in the UK to be recognised for the amazing work they do whilst allowing them an additional opportunity to raise much-needed funds. Also, my brother’s words

(click here) compel me to provide an opportunity to help all hospices spread their important message.

"The Hospice movement has helped to transform people's attitude to the end of life and has given immense comfort for those who are terminally ill.

And the reason is very simple: the Hospice movement is more interested in the person than in the illness and although people think it is about dying, it is actually about making life easier for those who are coming towards the end.

It is about love as well as care. And I know from many people who have been in hospices, including my own wife, what an atmosphere of warmth and friendship there is.

I hope that Walking on the Bright Side will help to strengthen public understanding of the Hospice movement and raise the funds they need."
